Discharged and Determined: Why I’m Building My Own OS After Goodbye to Cycling ’74 & Ableton

Okay. Now, I’m at the end of my daily stationary term and I just want to get out of here. This Thursday, I’ll get another injection for a two-week prolongation. My situation feels almost absurd right now.

I no longer have any connection to the Cycling ‘74 and Ableton sites. So, I’m thinking about other possibilities, like building my own Operating System (Ajava OS).

Here’s the thing: I could do a complete resynthesis in Compositor V9, but the number of samples would be really small compared to what MDL12 outputs in Ableton 12. However, this path gives me the confidence to continue on my own. I can’t evolve Compositor V9 now, but its IDE is already updated for modern macOS builds. So, I’m on my own now.

Thank you to everyone at Cycling ‘74 for all these years of support and collaborative work. The authorities won’t allow this project to continue anymore, arguing that 3 or 4 resynthesis loops from one track isn’t enough for them. But you know, I’m not that greedy. I’ll try to work on this OS because I agree with the idea that a techno or trance track is often just one or two loops mixed together.

And thank you to the team at Ableton for your Max for Live ability, which let me spread my work in utterly new ways and, of course, generate real income.

The Balena Etcher site is also blocked for me, so I can’t write OS images from my Mac. I need to find more options for image-writing software (free ones would be better). I know this is temporary, but for the Compositor project to grow, it’s better to rely on a standalone solution like V9.3.0 and expand its database. That way, I’d keep the V9.3.0 interface while Compositor itself runs on a much higher version. Currently, Compositor is at version 11.4.1.3. And after this release, they blocked my access to all their resources.

Alright, that’s enough for now.
Bye!
